Three horses have been killed in a car crash on the A36.
Wiltshire Police officers responded to reports of horses loose on the major Wiltshire route at roughly 11pm Saturday night.
A car had hit three of the horses and the animals died at the scene.
Police closed the road between Stapleford and Steeple Langford while they dealt with the incident, and other emergency services attended.
The driver of the vehicle that struck the horses escaped with minor injuries and was taken to hospital as a precaution.
One other horse was involved but was tracked down and contained safely while the owners were contacted.
Police are now reminding people that they could potentially avoid things like this from happening in the future by contacting them.
"If you see anything that could cause a road traffic collision, or anything suspicious please contact us on 101 or in an emergency 999," a police spokesperson said.
