Norwich City Council has apologised after a woman was left on her own for a fortnight to deal with the aftermath of a burst pipe that has left her home mouldy and damp.

Dr Lousie Prior, who has ME, was forced to endure water pouring into her council-managed flat in Godric Place for several days as workers struggled to fix the problem on Thursday, May 15.

It took four days before the leak was finally stopped, after which the property was left damaged, causing wallpaper to peel, cracks to appear in the walls and mould to develop.

But since then, Dr Prior claims she has not received any communication from Norwich City Services or the council until today (May 26), leaving her struggling to clean up the mess.

The 48-year-old said: "I feel really let down. The attitude was poor when it first happened and I was kept in the dark about the repairs.

"Since then, I feel I've just been left with my home in such a state and have had to deal with it all on my home.

"It isn't good enough."

Dr Prior, who has a PhD in chemistry, was left bedridden for a week due to suffering from migraines and exhaustion after the initial ordeal caused her health conditions relate to ME, or chronic fatigue syndrome, to worsen.

Norwich City Council said they made attempts to contact her but Dr Prior claims this hasn't been the case.

"I was at home almost all of the time but I have had no response - no voicemail, no message through the door, not a thing."

Dr Prior managed to speak with Norwich City Council today, and they have arranged to visit her flat and begin making repairs and assessments of the damage.

A spokesperson for Norwich City Council said: "We are sorry for any distress and inconvenience that Ms Prior has experienced with our repairs service.

"We have fixed the leak and will make good any areas damaged by the leak when they are dry.”
