In the mood for everyone's favourite Italian dish? Well good news, we've picked the seven best pizza places in Hertfordshire you simply must-visit.

1. Dirty Dough Pizza Co. - Hitchin

Dirty Dough Pizza Co. at The Victoria is up there with the best pizza I have ever had.

Launching at the much-loved pub in April 2021, they have helped turn the venue into a Hitchin must-visit alongside the equally brilliant Bun Lovin' Criminals.

A favourite among my friends and family, they really do know how to make fresh, delicious pizza, and with plenty of different toppings and sides, there's something for everyone.

Operating from a kitchen in the pub garden, you can even watch the talented Dirty Dough chefs make your Neapolitan pizza.

Seriously, if you haven't already, get yourself down there.

2. Sam’s – Hitchin

In a recent review of Hitchin Street Food Monthly, I claimed "there are only two top tier pizza places to make you say mamma mia". One of those is Dirty Dough Pizza Co., and the other is Sam's.

Made with freshly stretched dough and authentic Italian ingredients, they specialise in Neapolitan style pizza, with a thin base and soft puffy crusts.

With a pop-up kitchen at the Brickyard, takeaway and regular visits to street food events all over Hertfordshire, there's plenty of ways to get your hands on a delicious pizza from Sam's.

3. L'artista - Letchworth

Another favourite of mine, L'artista is a proper old school pizzeria, with walls adorned with paintings of Italy and pizza you've got to get your hands on.

A feature of Letchworth since 2003, L'artista is one of the town's most popular restaurant and it's no surprise, with their fresh ingredients making for great tasting food.

Their broad and varied menu means that if you aren't in the mood for pizza, there are plenty of other dishes to try, including pasta dishes and othe Italian classics.

4. The Yard – Harpenden

Everyone loves pizza, but they seem to be getting more and more expensive these days.

Not at The Yard though, with Harpenden's original wood fired pizzeria offering some tasty Italian goodness at very fair prices.

With a wide selection of reasonably priced starters, and pizzas that at most cost £12.95, this could be a good spot for a date night or family meal.

And with buy one get one free from 5pm on Tuesdays, that could be the perfect time.

5. Gracey’s Pizza – St Albans

All off the previous enteries on this list lean more towards the Neopolitan style, but they do things a little different at Gracey's Pizza.

Using flour from the nearby Redbournbury Mill, their dough is ferment in two stages and baked at lower temps to achieve a light and crispy base, American style.

Using the best Italian tomatoes and tasty ingredients, you can dine in or order to St Albans, Chiswell Green, Radlett, How Wood, Bricket Wood and Abotts Langley.

So, why not get yourself there soon?

6. Locanda Bagutta – St Albans

The final two recommendations come from my colleague, Herts Ad reporter and St Albans resident Pearce Bates.

First up is Locanda Bagutta, which opened in October 2018 and serves up the finest in traditional Italian dishes, including fresh pasta made on-site.

But we're not here for the pasta, we're here for the pizza, and they have plenty of choice with an extensive menu.

Using only the best in authentic and fresh ingredients, Locanda is a really great pizza spot you have to try.

7. La Cosa Nostra – St Albans

A smaller venue that most of this list, La Cosa Nostra has been open for more than 25 years and serves up some of the best pizza in St Albans.

A small and compact restaurant, it has the cosy vibe that's perfect for an evening dinner, and with an extensive menu there's great choice too.
