A passionate group of eco-warriors from Lordship Farm school were invited by the Letchworth Heritage Foundation to plant a tree as part of the late Queen’s Green Canopy initiative.

Jessie and Harry (Year 5), Luke and Fern (Year 4),  and Megan and Zion (Year 2) - from the school's Eco Committee - helped plant the Liquidambar Styraciflua in Willian next to the village pond.

Expert Steve Howells, chairman at ARCH Community Group, assisted the children with the planting, explaining: "We are working with community groups and looking for volunteers to help the Heritage Foundation plant 70 trees within Letchworth.

"We have planted six trees already and hope to plant the rest of the trees in various locations around Letchworth, including Wymondley Woods, Spring Road Meadow, Radwell Meadows and around the Greenway”.

Megan in Year 2 said: "It felt great to plant a beautiful tree to help remember the late Queen, support local wildlife and improve the environment. I am looking forward to seeing how the tree grows over the next few years."
