A woman from Stevenage will be cycling more than 200km this month to raise money in memory of her dad, who sadly passed away from motor neurone disease.

Justine Moseley, 52, will begin her ride at 9am on Saturday, April 29, from Bedwell Crescent, before finishing two days later at her brother's home in Burton, Dorset.

All funds raised by Justine will be donated to the Motor Neurone Disease Association (MNDA), which funds research into the disease, helps improve care, and provides support for people affected by MND.

Justine says that her dad, Hugh Read, was a "gentle giant of a man".

"He was struck down by motor neurone disease at the age of 69. He fought it the best he could, but within a month of his diagnosis he had passed away from this cruel disease.

"From the day he died I have felt the need to do something to help find a cure and to help people suffering from this horrible disease."

This will be the third fundraising event Justine has conducted in his memory - she shaved her head in 2016, and completed the Nightrider cycle event in London last year.

Ahead of the event, Cllr Conor McGrath will be hosting a fundraising event at his pub, The Poacher, on Saturday, April 22.

There will be a disco and raffle, and, Justine adds, "the possible waxing of my husband's and the landlord's legs to keep the interest up".

Cllr McGrath invited people to join the charity night from 8pm, but preferred not to comment on the leg waxing rumour!

Justine is keen for people to come along and support her ride on the 29th, saying: “The mayor of Stevenage will be there to see me off - it would be amazing to see a bit of a crowd there!”
