The Easter holidays are about to begin, with parents looking for ways to keep the kids occupied with fun activities.

This year, the holidays will last from Monday, April 3 until Friday, April 14 for pupils in Hertfordshire.

To help you fill those two weeks with days out, here are the top seven things to do in and around Hitchin, according to Tripadvisor.

1. British Schools Museum

The British Schools Museum is top of Tripadvisor's list of things to do in Hitchin, with an average rating of 4.5.

It's open on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 10am-4pm, and tickets cost £6.50 for adults and children over the age of five - children below that age can enter for free!

2. Stotfold Watermill & Nature Reserve

The watermill and nature reserve also has an average rating of 4.5 on Tripadvisor, with the nature reserve open every day during the Easter holidays.

The watermill itself will be open on days just before and after the school holidays, on Sunday, April 2 and Sunday, April 16.

You can see flour and oats being milled, water levels permitting, with the watermill being open between 12.30pm and 5pm on those days.

3. Hitchin Lavender

Hitchin Lavender is third on Tripadvisor's list of things to do in and around Hitchin, with an average rating of 4.0 from 824 reviews.

They'll be open in the summer months, once the lavender is in flower.

4. Market Theatre

Hitchin's Market Theatre is fourth on the list, with an average rating of 4.5 from 44 reviews.

During the Easter holidays, they're showing 'The Ghost: A Comedy Scary!', with tickets costing £14 for adults and £12 for concessions.

Tickets are still available for the final three performances of the show, on April 6, 7, and 8.

5. St Paul's Walden Bury

St Paul's Walden Bury comes fifth on Tripadvisor's list, with an average rating of 4.0.

It consists of gardens and a country house, which was the childhood home of Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother.

The gardens are open from noon until 5pm on Sundays and Wednesdays, with entry costing £7.50 for adults and free for children under the age of 16.

Tours of the house, meanwhile, cost £15 and are available on Saturday, April 1 and Wednesday, April 12.

6. The Factory Playhouse Theatre

The Factory Playhouse Theatre is sixth, with an average rating of 5.0 from 39 reviews.

Unfortunately, they don't have any performances scheduled for the Easter holidays but in June they're performing The Little Mermaid musical.

Tickets are available for £30 each.

7. Hitchin Swimming Centre

The final entry on Tripadvisor's list is Hitchin Swimming Centre, with an indoor swimming pool and an outdoors heated pool too.

The indoor pool will be open throughout the Easter holidays, with peaktime prices set at £6.40 for an adult swim and £3.20 for a junior swim.
