Two young sisters have had their long locks chopped off for charity in memory of their grandad, who lost his battle with motor neurone disease in 2021.

Annie Parry, aged eight, had nine inches of hair chopped off, while 11-year-old Katelyn had 12.5 inches cut.

They have raised about £160 so far for the Motor Neurone Disease Association, and their hair will be donated to the Little Princess Trust - a charity that provides real hair wigs, free of charge, to children and young people who have lost their own hair through cancer or other conditions.

The girls' grandad, Peter Angel, who lived in Stevenage, died in February 2021 after battling MND for almost two years. He was aged just 55.

Their mum, Charlotte, explained that the fundraising initiative was Katelyn's idea.

"Katelyn is a very caring, thoughtful young lady," she said. "She misses her grandad very much and struggles with her grief daily.

"She wants to raise awareness and help raise money to find a cure, as she doesn’t want other families to suffer the way her grandad did, and for families to have the trauma and the huge hole of losing someone you love to this devastating disease."
