Businesses and residents have launched a 'Hands Off Stevenage High Street' campaign in response to new parking restriction plans.

Stevenage Borough Council says it wants to create new 'no waiting at any time' restrictions in 36 roads in the Old Town, including High Street, "to prevent potentially obstructive parking from taking place at various locations".

Old Town business owners are concerned a loss of free parking will deter customers and could lead to businesses failing, and have launched a 'hands off Stevenage High Street campaign'.

It follows a protest in 2021 to retain free parking in the high street after a bid to make Stevenage Hertfordshire's first Sustainable Travel Town threatened its removal.
