Two men with police-style batons have been arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon.

Police officers on proactive patrols in the early hours of Saturday morning said they had cause to stop two men riding a moped in Stevenage.

Grounds existed for a stop search under Section 23 of the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971, Herts police said.

A spokesman for Herts police said: "Although no drugs were located, each were found in possession of a police-style baton. The driver also failed a roadside drugs wipe, which indicated that he was unfit to drive due to having drugs in his system."

The driver, a 22-year-old man from Hoddesdon, was arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon and driving whilst unfit through drugs.

The pillion passenger, a 20-year-old man from Stevenage, was arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon.
