A six-year-old boy will walk ten miles for a hospice that his nan volunteered at, before she sadly died from a tumour.

Howard's Nanny Anne was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumour and died in December.

Prior to her death, Anne volunteered for Garden House Hospice Care.

Howard has now set himself the challenge of walking ten miles in Anne's memory, raising money for the Letchworth-based hospice.

Howard's mum, Isabel Knight, told The Comet: "We are so proud of Howard for coming up with this fundraising idea, and his want to support Garden House Hospice.

"We’ve been overwhelmed by the donations so far. Anne always spoke in such a positive way about her volunteer work at the hospice and the people she met.

"She has inspired her grandchildren to help others."

Starting with a target of £500, Howard's JustGiving page has now raised over £1,300.

Isabel Knight works for charitable organisation INTO Giving, which will add 20 per cent to any funds raised by the challenge.

In a statement on the fundraising site, Howard said: "I want to raise money for a charity very close to my Nanny's heart.

"Mummy says, Garden House Hospice is where incredible people care for people who are very poorly, so I'm fundraising for them.

"Nanny loved caring for people, and used to volunteer at the hospice, and loved talking about the people she met.

"Nanny was such a kind person, and my sister, my cousins, and I loved crafting, snuggling up with a book, and baking with her.

"She baked the best cakes!

"Nanny was a great adventurer too, and loved discovering new places across the world, and admiring nature when out for a walk, this is why I decided to set myself a walking challenge.

"One day in February, when the weather is OK, Mummy, Daddy and I are going to walk 10 miles along the coast, I am not really sure how far this is but I know it's a long way for my six-year-old legs!

"Daddy says it's from Portslade, all the way past the big pier, and loads further to Peacehaven(ish)...and he thinks we'll need a lot of cakes in our rucksack, a packed lunch Nanny would be proud of!"
