The parents of a three-year-old girl severely brain damaged due to extreme complications during birth are appealing for help to adapt their home to meet their daughter's needs.

Jeffrey Wilderspin said he and his wife Nicola, from Letchworth, are longing "to provide Isla with the equipment she so desperately needs to be safe and comfortable at home".

Isla was born with Hypoxic Ischaemic Encephalopathy - brain dysfunctions caused by lack of oxygen to the brain, four limb cerebral palsy, dystonia, uncontrolled muscle spasms, global developmental delay, and is also registered blind.

"Isla is non-mobile, so will always require specialist equipment," Jeffrey said. "This includes a wheelchair, tracking and hoists to help us move her from room to room freely."

Isla, her parents and her two brothers - aged six and seven - live in social housing, and Jeffrey says they are eligible for funding from settle and Hertfordshire County Council totalling £60,000 for the adaptations, but that the quotation for the required work is £95,000.

He said: "As a hardworking family, who like many are faced with the cost-of-living crisis, we simply cannot afford the additional £35,000 that is needed to help Isla live as safely and as comfortably as possible.

"Our downstairs toilet area needs to be adapted to a wet room, with ceiling tracking placed in both Isla's ground floor bedroom and the wet room.

"All downstairs door frames will need to be widened to allow safe access, as well as a fixed concrete ramp leading to the front door installed, and partial landscaping of the back garden for wheelchair access."

Jeffrey has set up a Go Fund Me page at gofundme.com/f/giving-isla-hope.

"It has taken us a lot as a family to find the courage to ask for help, but Isla's needs take priority over pride," he said.

"So, here we are, asking if you could please help support us on our mission with any form of donation. We would be entirely grateful for your support."

He added: "Support comes in all forms and we understand that times are hard right now, so please, if you can't support us by donating to our fund, please do share our page with your friends and family."
