A teenage girl was sexually assaulted in Stevenage and police are appealing for witnesses and information.

The girl was walking along Bandley Rise just before 3.15pm on Monday, January 23, when she was approached by an unknown man.

The man is reported to have touched her inappropriately before walking off through the alleyway opposite Harefield.

He is described as white, aged in his 30s, with curly ginger hair and a long, bushy ginger beard. He was wearing black jeans, black trainers and a black puffer jacket.

Investigator Tara Adams-Cook, from the Local Crime Unit, said: "We understand that this incident will cause a great deal of concern among the community and I would like to reassure people that we are continuing to do all we can to trace this man.

"At this time, there have been no reports of a similar nature made to police in the area.

"I am appealing for anyone with information which may assist us in identifying the man to please come forward. Did you see someone matching this description?

"I’m particularly keen to hear from two dog walkers who were in the area at the time and may have seen something.

"If you believe this was you, or you have information which may assist, please get in touch."

Anyone with information is asked to email Tara.Adams-Cook@herts.police.uk, or call the non-emergency number 101, quoting crime reference 41/6644/23.
