Justin Galliford, CEO of Norse Group, tells us why he’s optimistic for 2023.

It’s been an eventful, not to say challenging, 12 months since I took over as CEO of Norse Group; the start of the war in Ukraine with the associated supply shortages and materials cost increases, monetary pressures on commercial organisations and the public purse alike, rapid rises in inflation, industrial unrest and a number of social issues.

It has also been a year of major changes in various aspects of the trading environment, with increased emphasis on the government-driven ESG (environmental, social and governance) agenda.

Through it all, like many of the region’s businesses, Norse has had to make hard decisions, but we are confident that these will help us not only survive these difficult times, but also come out of it all a stronger organisation.

Those decisions have involved financial, investment and operational flexibility which, by working in close partnership with our client base, supply chain, stakeholders and – our most valuable resource – our staff, have ensured that we are bringing a positive outlook to the year ahead.

Our mantra is “improving people’s lives”, and providing security of employment and responsibility for the wellbeing of our people has always been paramount for Norse. In the current, highly uncertain economic environment, they continue to be at the forefront of our approach to corporate sustainability.

Adding social value, taking a positive approach to the environmental impact of our activities and ensuring corporate governance complies with best practice should be at the heart of the business community’s agenda.

These tenets have helped Norse become a force for good both locally and nationally, and one of the region’s biggest and most stable employers. By exporting our services to other parts of the country, Norse is a major source of income for the Norfolk economy.

Our region, with its diverse range of businesses, has a strong and resilient commercial community, and we can have confidence in our ability to ride out the present storms and continue to build on our successes.
