With that in mind, here are seven great Mexican restaurants to try in Hertfordshire.

1. Las Iguanas, Watford

Popular latin American chain Las Iguanas features a plethora of Mexican favourites on its menu. 

Mexican poppadoms, a range of tacos and empanadas are all available.

Watford's branch is located at 61 to 63 High Street.

2. Cantina Carnitas, Hitchin

Cantina Carnitas, in Hitchin, was the winner of a Hertfordshire Food and Drink Award in 2016.

The location's menu features a range of Mexican specialities, and five course tapas evenings also take place.

The restaurant has 4.5 stars on Tripadvisor, and is the winner of a Travellers' Choice Award for 2022.

3. El Jefe Tex-Mex, Harpenden

El Jefe Tex-Mex is one of a number of food vans on a pedestrianised concourse in Harpenden High Street.

Outdoor seating is available for customers, who can enjoy a range of American and Mexican dishes.

These include a variety of tacos, burritos and esquites.

4. The Mexican, Ware

The Mexican is a restaurant on Ware's High Street, which has been open since 2019.

Indoor and outdoor seating is available, and an extensive menu is present at the location.

The restaurant's co-owner Brett Cahill-Moreno has family from Yucatan in Mexico, and is now living his life-long dream of opening a Mexican restaurant.

5. Tortilla, Watford

Located at Watford's Atria shopping centre, Tortilla is open for both eat-in and takeaway orders.

Burritos, tacos, salad bowls, nachos and quesadillas are all on the menu.

The restaurant has a four-star rating on Tripadvisor, with 65 of 125 reviewers giving the location five stars out of five.

6. Dirties, Hertford

Dirties is a Mexican-inspired restaurant and basement bar in Hertford.

A menu that focusses on "layering flavours" is provided at the location, and features the likes of Tostadas, Burritos, Tacos and quesadillas.

The restaurant has a four-star rating on Tripadvisor, with 63 of 120 reviewers giving the location five stars out of five.

7. Cultivo Lounge, Letchworth

Cultivo Lounge in Letchworth Garden City serves a variety of Mexican dishes on its menu.

The likes of Tapas and Mexican 'superbowls' are served at the location, which has a quirky latin-American feel.
