Hertfordshire has produced its fair share of pop icons throughout the years.

The county's talent has produced hits such as Budapest, Stay With Me and Hold Back The River to name but a few.

With an exceptional roster of household names, here's seven famous musicians from Hertfordshire.

1. George Ezra, Hertford

Singer of Green Green Grass, Shotgun, Budapest and more, George Ezra shot to fame following the release of his first album in 2014.

A Hertford-local, Ezra worked in the town's Old Barge pub from the age of 16.

Now a global pop star, the 29-year-old still visits the pub to this day, and is a popular figure at the establishment.

2. Sam Smith, Great Chishill

World-renowned pop star Sam Smith grew up in the village of Great Chishill, on the Cambridgeshire border, near Royston.

The singer is famous for hits such as I’m Not the Only One, Too Good at Goodbyes, Stay With Me and Latch.

A Bond song is also on Smith's portfolio, with Writing's on the Wall becoming the first 007 theme to reach number one in the United Kingdom.

During the star's youth, Smith worked part-time at a local shop in Barley.

3. Sir Cliff Richard, Waltham Cross

Hailing from the town of Waltham Cross, in the Borough of Broxbourne, Sir Cliff Richard is one of the nation's most successful musicians.

The now-knight briefly lived in Surrey, before moving to Waltham Cross after his family moved from India.

Sir Cliff then moved to a council house in Bury Green, Cheshunt.

He is famous for songs such as Mistletoe and Wine, We Don't Talk Anymore and The Young Ones.

4. Geri Halliwell, Watford

Born at Watford General Hospital, Geri Halliwell (Ginger Spice) went on to be part of hugely successful girl band The Spice Girls.

Halliwell studied at Watford's Beechfield School and Watford Grammar School for Girls.

The Spice Girls formed in 1994 and have since had hits with Wannabe, 2 Become 1, Spice Up Your Life and Say You'll Be There.

5. James Bay, Hitchin

The Comet: James Bay

Once a student at Hitchin Boys School, James Bay has gone on to record hits such as Let It Go, Hold Back The River, and Best Fake Smile.

The singer-songwriter grew up in Hitchin, and has even released a video showing his connection to the town.

James Bay has received multiple awards during his career, including Brit Awards "Critics' Choice" award, in 2015, and Best British Male Solo Artist one year later.

6. Simon Le Bon, Bushey

Duran Duran star Simon Le Bon was born at Watford General Hospital, and grew up in nearby Bushey.

He later moved to Pinner with his family, where he spent the rest of his youth.

Duran Duran are famous for hits such as Hungry Like The Wolf, Rio, and Ordinary World.

The band also recorded Bond theme A View To A Kill.

7. Victoria Beckham, Goffs Oak

Victoria Beckham (Posh Spice) was a member of popular girl band The Spice Girls. 

She grew up in village of Goffs Oak, in the Borough of Broxbourne.

The pop star lived with her family in a building named The Old School House.

She has gone on to record a number of hit singles, and work as a fashion designer.
