The fourth season of Netflix serial killer thriller YOU was partly filmed on location at Knebworth House.

The forthcoming new series of the American psychological thriller is released exclusively on streaming service Netflix in the UK at 8am on February 9, 2023.

Gossip Girl star Penn Badgley is back as Joe Goldberg - but this time he's masquerading as bearded professor Jonathan Moore, having crossed the Atlantic to work in England.

Murderer Joe has moved to London following events in series three and scenes of season four of YOU were filmed on location at Knebworth House in Hertfordshire, as the Netflix production stills reveal.

It is not clear yet what role Knebworth House will have in the series, but in the first-look images released by Netflix pictured outside the Gothic-looking stately home are new season 4 cast members Tilly Keeper as aristocratic socialite Lady Phoebe and Charlotte Ritchie as art gallery director Kate.

Kate is described as "fearsomely smart, independent, suspicious and immensely loyal to her friends". She's especially protective of her best friend, Lady Phoebe.

When Joe enters into their privileged world, Kate not only dislikes him, she also strongly suspects something about him is not what it seems.

Tilly Keeper, who plays the sweet, kind, famous and rich Phoebe, is best known for playing Louise Mitchell in BBC soap EastEnders.

Another promotional photo shows Joe getting up close to new cast member Charlotte Ritchie, who also plays Alison Cooper in sitcom Ghosts and has appeared as Bonnie Evans in Grantchester.

Knebworth House posted on Instagram: "'YOU' Season 4 is coming to Netflix early next year! 🎬

"Can you spot us in these new promo photos?"

YOU isn't the first Netflix series to be filmed at Knebworth House.

The Hertfordshire stately home has also doubled for Balmoral in royal drama The Crown, with Knebworth House featuring in the most recent fifth series starring Imelda Staunton as Queen Elizabeth II.

Olivia Colman and Gillian Anderson also shot scenes at Knebworth for season four of The Crown.

The highly-anticipated season four of YOU will be split into two batches on Netflix.

The first five episodes will premiere on the streaming site on February 9, 2023, with part two - episodes six to 10 - launching a month later on March 9, 2023.

The series is co-created by Sera Gamble, who also serves as showrunner.

Developed by Gamble and Greg Berlanti and based on the books You and Hidden Bodies by Caroline Kepnes, YOU has been a huge hit on Netflix.

"Reading Caroline's novel, Greg and I were instantly obsessed with Joe Goldberg and his twisted world view. And it's been thrilling to watch Penn bring Joe to creepy yet compelling life," said executive producer Sera Gamble.

"We're deeply grateful that Netflix has shown You such monumental support, and that people around the world have enjoyed watching Joe really get it all very wrong over the past three seasons.

"The whole You team is excited to explore new, dark facets of love in season 4."

In season 3, viewers saw Joe and his equally murderous wife, Love Quinn (Victoria Pedretti), now married and raising their baby, having moved to the balmy Northern California enclave of Madre Linda, where they’re surrounded by privileged tech entrepreneurs, judgmental mommy bloggers, and Insta-famous biohackers.

By the end of the series, Joe was in Paris searching for his latest obsession, librarian Marienne Bellamy (Tati Gabrielle).

With Joe now taking the identity of professor Jonathan Moore in London, scenes of season 4 were filmed in the capital, with Tower Bridge clearly visible in the background of one of the production shots released by Netflix.

"I'm not the lovable book store manager in New York, or the shop clerk in LA, or the doting husband in the suburbs,” says Joe in the sneak peek trailer.

"No, not anymore. Allow me to introduce myself. I've gone through a bit of refinement upon crossing the pond.

“And living in London has allowed me to bury the past, if you will.

“Gone are the days of unrequited love and longing. No, this time around I’m focusing on academia and instruction, while keeping my typical extracurricular activities strictly professional.”

Joe continues: "One must make time to exchange ideas with like-minded colleagues. Unfortunately, with friends in high places, there usually come others attempting to climb that social ladder.

"Some may end up falling, or shall I say 'pushed', to their social death.

"The question is by whom?"

Netflix's official YOU Twitter account tweeted: "New city, new identity, new crew. Let’s dig into Joe’s new subjects, shall we?"

And following a thread introducing this season's characters, YOU Netflix tweeted: "Prepare to be gobsmacked February 9. Cheerio!"
