Sammy Moore says family and the opportunity to be closer to them was the main driver in his decision to leave Potters Bar Town.

The 35-year-old stunned the Scholars and the rest of the Isthmian League by announcing his intention to leave along with assistant manager Darren Beale.

He leaves with the club sitting top of the Isthmian League Premier Division

But the now former Bar boss has explained his thinking in a post put onto Twitter and revealed he could be taking a role nearer to his Kent home.

Moore said: "Just wanted to say a massive thank you to all at Potters Bar - Adam, Peter, Carol, Simon and all their incredible fans and staff.

"They made us feel welcome as soon as we arrived and took our families under their wing.

"What a season it has been so far and the decision to leave isn't one we have taken lightly at all.

"An opportunity to be closer to home has come up and with a lot of family health stuff that has arisen in the last few months, ultimately being able to be around for my kids more seems like one we as a management team couldn't turn down.

"We want to wish Potters Bar all the best for the rest of the season."

Speculation has Faversham Town as Moore's possible destination.
