A grant-giving charity has launched a winter appeal to support those in most urgent need during the cost-of-living crisis.
Hertfordshire Community Foundation is asking people who can, to donate their energy rebate or winter fuel allowance to help those in need.
Helen Gray, the foundation's director, said: “Energy prices are at a record high, leaving many Hertfordshire households worrying about heating their homes. Fuel poverty poses a serious threat, with some having to make the impossible choice between heating or eating this winter in a desperate attempt to cut back on costs.
“All households are set to receive a total of £400 of energy support. For some households this is desperately needed and won’t be enough, but some recipients may not need this assistance and we are inviting anyone who is able to do so, to donate some or all of their rebate to help someone in need."
Funds raised will provide grants to smaller, local community organisations and charities and will help source items including food parcels and essential items, sessions to support people’s mental health and advice to those facing financial hardship, as well as to help local community centres and charities to keep their heating and lights on.
To donate, visit hertscf.org.uk, make a bank transfer to account number 28592379 sort code 60-10-39, or send a cheque payable to Hertfordshire Community Foundation to HCF, Foundation House, 2-4 Forum Place, Fiddlebridge Road, Hatfield, AL10 0RN.
