Two officers have been taken to hospital after a police car overturned on the A1(M) near South Mimms and Hatfield.

At around 6am this morning, the police car was involved in a single-vehicle crash on the northbound carriageway at Junction 1 for South Mimms.

Other officers from the police and National Highways, as well as paramedics, rushed to the scene to, with the northbound carriageway was then closed off to other motorists.

There were long delays on both carriageways, with a diversion put in place.

“A police car was involved in a road traffic collision on the A1(M) northbound at junction 1 for South Mimms at around 6am today,” said a police spokesman.

“The car ended up on its roof, no other vehicle was involved. No one was seriously injured, though two officers were taken to hospital to be assessed as a precaution.

“Road closures were in place while the incident was dealt with. The carriageway has since re-opened.”
