A number of vehicles were seized by Herts police last week as part of an operation to tackle crime on the county's roads.
Operation Agrarian saw officers stop and examine commercial vehicles in North Herts, Stevenage and Hertsmere, working alongside councils, Trading Standards, the Environment Agency, Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency and His Majesty’s Revenue and Customs.
On Wednesday, October 26, 170 vehicles were stopped, with three of these seized for having no licence or insurance and one person dealt with for a drug offence.
15 waste licence offences were identified, 15 vehicles were prohibited from being used until they were made road worthy, and 19 Traffic Offence Reports were issued.
Sergeant Terry Alcock, from the East Herts Rural Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: “Operations such as this enable us to proactively gather intelligence about who is travelling through the area, as well as detecting and preventing crimes such as fly-tipping and theft of fuel.
“It also allows us to remove potentially dangerous vehicles from our road network.
“It’s an excellent example of partnership working, which I hope provides reassurance to our local communities.
“I would like to extend my gratitude to those who assisted at the event and to the many law-abiding motorists for their patience and understanding in supporting these proactive operations.”
