A new children's play area in Stevenage was officially opened last week.

New equipment for the £170,000 play area in Chells Park, off Gresley Way, was chosen based on feedback from a consultation event attended by pupils at the town's Camps Hill Primary School and other local children, Stevenage Borough Council said.

Councillor Simon Speller, portfolio holder for environment and climate change, said: “We know how important play and time outdoors is to children and their development, which is why we are improving play areas across Stevenage.

“We’d like to thank all the local children and the pupils at Camps Hill Primary School for sharing their views and helping to shape the new play area, which provides an enjoyable outdoor space for local children to enjoy.”

The borough council says it has completed refurbishment works at more than 40 of the equipped play spaces in Stevenage over the past six years.
