Emergency services have confirmed that a man has died following a "medical episode" at a Stevenage cinema.

The incident took place at around 2.30pm yesterday (Wednesday, September 28), at the Cineworld cinema in Stevenage Leisure Park, Kings Way.

Two ambulances and an ambulance officer vehicle - from the East of England Ambulance Service - could be seen outside the venue, at that time.

Officers from Hertfordshire Constabulary and a team from the East Anglian Air Ambulance were also called to the scene.

Hertfordshire police have now confirmed that a man in his 70s has passed away, after becoming ill.

The death is not being treated as suspicious.

A spokesperson for Hertfordshire police said: "Police were called at just before 2.30pm on Wednesday, September 28, after a man became ill at Stevenage Leisure Park.

"Officers attended to assist the ambulance service at the scene.

"Sadly, despite best efforts, the man, aged in his early 70s, passed away.

"His next of kin have been informed.

"The death is not being treated as suspicious and will be referred to the coroner."

A spokesperson for the East of England Ambulance Service added: "Two ambulances, an ambulance officer vehicle and East Anglian Air Ambulance were called to Stevenage Leisure Park yesterday following reports of a man taken suddenly ill.

"Sadly, despite the best efforts of all those involved, the patient died at the scene."
