A DOOMED wedding and conference venue could be turned into a block of 10 flats, after fresh plans were lodged.

Developers hope to convert The Node in Codicote, which closed nearly two years ago after owners Chartridge decided it was no longer financially viable.

In October last year, plans to turn the main house into seven flats were given a thumbs-up, but developers have brought forward a bigger proposal.

Documents submitted to the council claim the site would be “entirely neighbourly”.

Approval has already been given by North Herts District Council (NHDC) to convert the main house into seven apartments, the stable block into three mews houses and build a further three detached houses.

But the latest application, submitted by Court Homes Ltd and Rowan Homes Ltd, proposes converting the main house into 10 apartments.

The original plans for the stable block and three detached houses still stand – although the developers want them to be larger.

They also want to demolish modern parts of the main house, the bedroom accommodation block, the training centre and other outbuildings.

There are plans to build 13 garages and parking, relocate the tennis court, and build new roadways at the Hitchin Road site.

A report, submitted to NHDC, stated: “It is not considered the addition of three two bedroom apartments, proposed by this development, will have any greater impact upon neighbouring properties than the approved scheme.

“Given the potential for noise generated by a hotel and in particular a wedding venue, with the possibility of activity at unsociable hours, it is considered that an entirely residential environment with only 16 dwellings will be entirely neighbourly.”

It added: “Essentially, the proposal is very similar.”

A decision is expected next month.
