Scunthorpe United loanee Alex Davey now has his name in the record books after being involved in the Iron’s never-ending FA Cup penalty shootout against Worcester City on Wednesday night (December 18).

Davey, from Welwyn Garden City and currently on loan in Lincolnshire from Premier League tabletoppers Chelsea, played in the FA Cup second round replay at Kidderminster Harriers’ ground Aggborough, which had initially finished 1-1 after extra time.

Then came a 32 spot kick extravanganza, eclipsing Macclesfield and Forest Green’s previous FA Cup record from November 2001, in which Macclesfield eventually prevailed 11-10.

Davey was the final outfield player to step up, making the score 8-8, before the goalkeepers were required to take one.

The marathon standoff finally ended when Worcester City’s Wayne Thomas missed at 13-13, leaving Miguel Llera to convert and set up a tie with Chesterfield or Milton Keynes Dons in the third round.
