A TIGER, Donald Duck and a cape crusader were among those who turned out for the traditional annual pancake races with only one thing in mind – to batter the opposition.
Hitchin hosted its yearly event, while Baldock also got involved this year for the first time.
Both events were a success – not a flop – with spectators and contestants braving the cold and snow.
Over in Hitchin, five races threw up some pan-tastic contests.
Mike Hughes, Priory Rotary president, said: “It definitely wasn’t a flop.
“There were some good fancy dress costumes. There was a cape crusader who wore a cape and short, which was amazing, because it was bitter.
“My thanks go to all those who put time in to organise it, and to those who took part.”
In the first ever Baldock pancake races, winning was easy peasy lemon squeezy for CHQ Architects, whose display clinched them the title.
Four teams of four took part in the races, which consisted of running, flipping, and switching aprons.
Town centre manager, Murray Fastier, said: “It was good, really fun. I was surprised how many came out to watch it. It was something a little bit different.
“Next year, we’re going to build on this, it’s something we can take further.”
