Boro midfielder says there is more to come from him after regaining his place in the side

Simon Heslop says Stevenage can build on their improving form which has seen them extend their unbeaten run to three matches.

Graham Westley’s side failed to win in any of their three opening league matches of the season, but they have since won one and drawn two games and Heslop believes his team are getting better.

The Boro midfielder, back into the side for Saturday’s 0-0 draw at Tranmere Rovers for the first time since the defeat to Swindon Town on August 10, was one of Stevenage’s best performers as he marshalled the space just in front of the defence.

Speaking after the match, Heslop said: “It’s always nice to keep a clean sheet away from home if you’re going to look at the positives.

“I think the game was there for us to win if I’m totally honest. We’re a little bit disappointed not to get the three points but it’s probably a fair result at the end of the day.

“I think we started the game ok and had a lot of the ball, a decent start considering we’re away from home. We didn’t really let the fans get going, so it was a decent start from that perspective but I didn’t think we really created enough for the amount of ball that we had.

“[The unbeaten run] is something to build on. We had lost the first three league games so to come and not lose the next three is something to build on.” Asked about the start to his Stevenage career after he joined the club in the summer, the midfielder said: “When you join a new club you’re keen to make an impact, let the lads know what you’re about and you need to do that out there on the pitch so it was nice to get back into the team.

“I still think there’s more to come from me. I’d say I’ve done ok, I’m still getting to know the boys and I think there’s more to come.”
