Police are cracking down on cyclists riding in pedestrianised areas after a spate of incidents in Stevenage town centre.

Those caught cycling on pavements and in no cycling zones such as the town centre will be fined £30.

“Since the summer we have seen an increase in cyclists riding through pedestrian parts of the town,” said police community support officer Ron Treadwell from the Stevenage Town Centre Safer Neighbourhood Team.

“It can be extremely dangerous for members of the public on foot to be sharing pavements with cyclists. Please don’t risk getting a fine and only cycle where you are allowed.”
