A village convenience store was ram-raided in the early hours of this morning (Friday), with thieves using a digger to steal a cash point.
Police were called to the One Stop shop in Clifton at about 1.30am after a stolen JCB telescopic loader was used to smash a hole in the wall and steal a cash point, as residents slept in flats above.
The digger was left at the scene in Shefford Road, while three thieves made off with the cash point in a white pick-up truck – believed to have been stolen in Cambridgeshire.
Cars parked in the road were also damaged.
The convenience store was shut this morning and cordoned off with police tape.
Police are checking if CCTV caught the incident on camera.
A spokesman said: “We’re asking anyone in the area who saw the incident take place or the white pick-up truck leaving to give us a call on the non-emergency number 101.”
The ram-raid follows a similar incident in July when money was stolen from a cash point at an Esso petrol garage in Stotfold, although police are not currently linking the two.
