A new zebra crossing opened on the evening of last week after years of petitioning.

Stevenage Borough Cllr Robin Parker funded much of the costs of the crossing, on Mobbsury Way, in Stevenage, from his HCC Locality Budget and HCC Highways Locality Budget.

Residents first moved for a new crossing to be installed in 2009 when three Nobel students were injured while crossing the road.

Cllr Parker said: “I am really pleased at last to have got this crossing open. There are around 2000 school students who attend nearby schools here at least twice each day and they and all other residents now have an additional safe crossing point.

“I want to thank the officials and others at HCC Highways for doing the job efficiently and to a high standard and overcoming numerous obstacles along the way.”
