Rebecca Honeysett, of Wisden Road in Stevenage, had only ever had her hair trimmed, but on Tuesday had 15 inches cut off. The hair will be donated to The Little Princess Trust – a charity which provides real hair wigs for children suffering hair loss through cancer treatment.

Rebecca said: “I decided it was time to lose my long locks and go for a shorter hairstyle, but didn’t like the idea of it all ending up on the salon floor.

“Each wig costs £350 to make, so I’d like to raise as much money as I can to go with my hair donation.”

Her mum, Tina, said: “I’m so proud of her. She made that decision. She was saying she wanted her hair cut but it’s such a waste. She said it would be really good if someone could use it. We went on the internet together and found this charity. She was dead set on it and wanted to do it for that charity.”

Rebecca has raised about £600 so far. You can still sponsor her by visiting www.justgiving.com/bexcutsforcancer
