A car and a haul of jewellery – including an item of particular sentimental value – have been stolen during a break-in.

The burglary occurred at some point between 11am on Friday, May 23, and 2.50pm on Sunday, June 1, at a home in Walnut Tree Road, Hitchin.

The offenders entered the property by forcing open a window and are believed to have left in a stolen 10-plate black Volkswagen Polo which had been parked at the address.

A silver globe, seven to eight inches in circumference was also taken, with the letter ‘EA’ inscribed on its top.

The globe has an onyx base which is approximately six inches by six inches and has small silver feet. There is also a plaque set on the base that has an inscription of a name on it.

Burglers also stole a pair of large clip-on gold and jade earrings and a gold and jade bracelet.

Detective sergeant Terri Heredia, who is investigating, said: “The items stolen are very distinctive, particularly the silver globe. This item holds a lot of sentimental value to the victim and I would urge anyone who knows of its, or any of the other items’, whereabouts, or has been offered any of the items for sale, to contact me immediately.

“Equally, I would ask anyone who saw anything unusual or suspicious between the stated times and in the location of the burglary to contact me. Any detail, however insignificant it may seem, may assist our investigation.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact DS Heredia via Hertfordshire Constabulary’s non-emergency number 101, citing crime reference G1/14/1354. Alternatively call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
