A brick wall has been damaged after a stolen quad bike was ridden through it on Monday with a piece of concrete attached.

Police are appealing for witnesses following the incident, which occurred at a property in Nutleigh Grove, Hitchin.

Thieves removed the security chain of the quad bike and tampered with the ignition to get it started, before riding through a neighbour’s wall as they left the scene – creating scratch marks on the road from a large piece of concrete which was attached to the bike.

Police believe the offenders turned left out of Nutleigh Grove, onto Redhill Road, and right at the roundabout onto Bedford Road, before heading straight to Paynes Park.

From there the quad bike went straight on at the roundabout onto Upper Tilehouse Street and then onto the A505, before the concrete came off at the turning for Offley while heading in the direction of Luton.

The stolen quad bike was a green Yamaha Big Bear 350 which will have had a chain and possible masonry attached to the back of it.

Pc Geoff Scarborough is investigating and said: “I would appeal to anyone who was around the area at this time and saw a quad bike being ridden to contact me with information. I would also like to appeal to anyone who may have any CCTV footage which would have captured anything which may assist with the investigation.
