An ‘electric’ disco on Saturday night blasted out to raise funds for a Baldock mother-of-two to have the second mastectomy she believes will protect her from further cancer.
Lolly For Polly held the Old Skool Disco at The Tudor Oaks in Astwick, raising more than £1,500 towards paying for private surgery and reconstruction work for Polly Simpson.
Polly was diagnosed with breast cancer in December 2012 and underwent a mastectomy and chemotherapy at Bedford Hospital while pregnant with her second child.
After giving birth to her son Alfie in April last year, she received more chemotherapy and decided to have her other breast removed to prevent the cancer returning.
But after testing negative for the BRAC 1 and 2 gene which confirmed she is not a gene carrier, she said her request for the surgery was refused by the NHS.
Lolly For Polly administrator Keith Willison said: “It was an electric night with over half of the customers dressing up. This was all carried out with a fantastic spirit.”
Polly said: “The fundraising efforts by everyone have been great. Lots of companies have been giving raffle prizes and the disco was fabulous.
“I really appreciate the support and I’m looking forward to the winter fair at Baldock Town Hall on Tuesday.”
