Police have launched extra patrols in Stevenage to help crackdown on crime levels over the festive period.
Operation Twist runs annually throughout December and focuses on preventing shoplifting, purse dipping and theft from cars.
Officers will concentrate on the Old Town, town centre and Roaring Meg Retail Park and work closely with retail security staff.
Neighbourhood Sgt Jim Moatt said: “At this time of year we would traditionally see a rise in shop lifting, thefts from cars and purse dipping, as more people are out shopping.
“As a result of this operation we have managed to keep Christmas crime levels low.
“However we would like to remind people to keep their belonging safe at all times.
“Keep bags firmly closed and purses and wallets out of sight.
“Don’t leave valuables in your cars and try to avoid taking purchases back to the car and then leaving it whilst you carry on with your purchasing.”
