Hundreds of people pulled on their trainers for charity on Sunday in the Knebworth Park Run, which this year was marking its 10th anniversary.

About 600 runners, joggers and walkers made their way around the historic park on either 5km and 10km routes the morning after Valentine’s Day to raise money for the British Heart Foundation.

This year was the 10th time the race had been held at Knebworth House, with the first event taking place in 1995.

The final total for the race is expected in three months’ time, but organisers hope to raise around £45,000 this year.

Regional event organiser Hayley Reynolds, regional event organiser, said: “We had 600 runners taking part in hope of raising £45,000.

“We were so pleased with the event, the atmosphere was incredible, we had a jazz band and a face painter on site.

“The deer were running around the park at the same time as the runners.

“It was amazing to see the community come together supporting each other and supporting the British Heart Foundation.

“Thank you to all of the volunteers, runners and supporters for backing us.”

Last year saw the biggest Knebworth Park Run with 1,040 people taking part in the event raising £46,000

Coronary heart disease remains the single biggest killer in the UK and is responsible for almost 80,000 deaths each year – more than 200 people every day.
