Temporary traffic lights which were put in place yesterday due to a power cut have been removed – much to the relief of motorists of travelling through Hitchin.
The works in Upper Tilehouse Street have caused long delays around the town while UK Power Networks engineers tried to fix a fault affecting 10 homes.
The lights have now been removed after power was fully restored at 1.40am today.
Further work does need to be carried out so barriers are still in place on the pavement but the road is clear.
A spokesman said: “We recognise that this emergency work did cause frustration for motorists in the area and apologise for any inconvenience caused. However we would like to reassure our customers that we worked as quickly as was safely possible to restore the area to normal as soon as we could.”
