Car owners queued up in their droves between 10am and 2pm to have their vehicles cleaned at Stevenage Fire Station, in St George’s Way.

In total the group raised £774.81 which will be split between The Fire Fighters Charity, which supports serving and retired firefighters and their families, and

Stevenage’s mayor Sherma Batson’s three chosen charities.

Firefighter Adam Swan said: “It was a fantastic day and was probably the most successful car wash we’ve held in recent memory. As well as raising lots of money for charity we engaged with the community to help educate them about fire safety.

“We would like to say thank you to everyone who donated some cash for a good cause.”
