Saturday shoppers are urged to add an extra item or two to their lists and support a Stevenage and Knebworth Community Food Bank drive in the Old Town on Saturday.
The collection session will be at the High Street Waitrose store from 10am to 4pm to help replenish stocks for the summer holiday period.
The organisation’s chair John Mead said: “Based on past experience we are anticipating an increase in demand over the school summer holidays when the needs of families suffering food poverty become even more acute.
“We are very grateful to Waitrose and hope the public will respond as generously as they have in the past.”
For those in need of or for those who might know of families in temporary financial difficulty, vouchers can be provided through Stevenage’s Citizens Advice Bureau.
Anyone who wishes to volunteer to help with the collection at the store will be very welcome – email stevenagecommunityfoodbank@gmail.com for more details.
