A burst water main is threatening homes in Hitchin this morning.
A broken main at a water pumping site at the top of Windmill Hill has seen the flow directed away from houses in the area.
A spokesman for Affinity Water, which owns the pumping site, said: “Due to the large volume of water and the risk of flooding of the neighbouring properties, the water is currently being pumped away from customers houses.
“As a result water will be visible along Windmill Hill and Queen Street.
“We would like to assure customers there are not additional bursts and this is being done to protect customers property, while the best repair solution is investigated.
“We apologise for any inconvenience caused.”
