A parade through Hitchin town centre was held on Remembrance Sunday to honour the fallen.
Yesterday’s commemoration to remember those who lost their lives in conflicts saw a parade in Hitchin start at the town hall and march to the war memorial next to St Mary’s Church.
After a service in the church – attended by members of the public and dignitaries including Hitchin and Harpenden MP Peter Lilley, district council chairman Ray Shakespeare-Smith and a Deputy Lord Lieutenant representing the Queen – wreaths were laid at the war memorial and a silence was observed. The Last Post was played, then the procession marched back to the town hall.
Earlier that day there was also a service at St Faith’s Church in Woolgrove Road.
A further two-minute silence will be observed at the Hitchin war memorial on Wednesday at 11am to mark Armistice Day.
