An MP has been showing his support for a Stevenage-based charity on Giving Tuesday.
Throughout today the public are being encouraged to give or volunteer for charity in the wake of Black Friday and Cyber Monday – a phenomenon aimed at Christmas shoppers seeking a bargain.
Stevenage MP Stephen McPartland has backed the charity initiative during a visit Mercy Ships UK’s headquarters in Meadway.
The not-for-profit organisation runs the world’s largest civilian floating hospital which docks in some of the poorest countries in the world, providing vital medical care to the world’s forgotten poor.
Mr McPartland said: “Mercy Ships are headquartered here in Stevenage and I am proud of the amazing work they do providing vital surgical operations overseas to those who otherwise would not be able to obtain medical services.”
Judy Polkinhorn, executive director of Mercy Ships UK, added: “We’re delighted to be taking part in Giving Tuesday. Millions of people just don’t have access to the healthcare they need and we want to give these patients hope.”
To support the cause text GTMS15 £2 to 70070.
