Pop along to Hitchin’s Church House on Saturday morning and you can grab a coffee, bag a bargain, and find out about some of the key events in the town’s calendar in the year ahead.
The Churchyard event, which runs from 11am to 1pm, is being organised by the town’s four Rotary clubs to give charities a chance to raise some cash but also to showcase the worldwide service organisation’s own big events for 2016.
That means there will be a book stall in aid of Leonard Cheshire Disability, which has a centre at Lavender Fields on the edge of town, and a jewellery stall supporting Home-Start North Herts, which helps young families going through a tough time.
Bric-a-brac bargains will be on sale to boost Rotary’s own charity coffers, and visitors will be able to sit down and tuck into tea, coffee and home-made cakes.
Rotary events and projects which will be in the spotlight will include next month’s annual Pancake Festival and races organised by the Priory club, a display about the End Polio Now drive which has been a key Rotary aim for many years and which will include a chance to examine an iron lung, as well as the Hitchin Hard Half Marathon and the town’s Wine & Food Festival.
