A former FIFA World Cup and Premier League referee was on home turf this week as he posed for a picture on a walkway displaying famous faces from Stevenage.
Graham Poll, who refereed his last football match in 2007, was back in his home town on Tuesday when he paid a visit to a mural between Stevenage railway station and the town centre which showcases success stories in the world of sport and the arts.
The 52-year-old, who attended Thomas Alleyne and went on to referee in the FIFA World Cup in 2002 and 2006, signed a portrait of himself and posed for pictures in the walkway.
Councillor Richard Henry, who oversees leisure services at Stevenage Borough Council, said: “As one of the many famous faces on the walkway at Stevenage Arts and Leisure Centre, it was great that Graham stopped by. We have such a rich sporting and cultural heritage in Stevenage that I hope people who walk past and see the pictures will continue to be inspired to go on and fulfil their own ambitions, just like Graham.”
