A three-year-old boy with a rare genetic condition is set to get a dream garden after a Hitchin landscaping team’s call for help prompted strangers to donate almost £2,500 in less than a month, with others set to decorate the house as well.

Logan Keir from Stevenage was born with Digeorge syndrome and other medical issues which make it hard for him to play outside.

The project, set for the weekend of May 21 and 22, is being spearheaded by Shane Johnson of Heaven and Earth Landscaping Services, and 25-year-old mum Gemma Brown found it hard to express how grateful she is.

“We’re just completely overwhelmed,” she said.

“It brought me to tears when we reached £2,000. We didn’t expect to actually get there – and people are still putting in money now.”

An online donations page had received pledges worth £1,000 within a week after word spread through a ‘Garden for Logan 2016’ Facebook group, and as the Comet went to press the total stood just shy of £2,500.

Shane, 40, has been joined by Chris Standen of Aerial Images, Cliff Lee of CDL Repairs, Mark Meldrum of MKM Bespoke Patios and Driveways, Dan Mayhew of DJM Carpentry and Building Ltd and Leigh Mulholland of MBC Construction, the latter two of whom have also arranged to decorate inside the house.

The team intend to put in decking by the door, a green area with a ‘yellow brick road’ through the garden, and a safe play environment at the end with a big climbing frame.

“We’re thinking about making the fence into a sensory play wall, with a waterfall going down so Logan can run his fingers in it,” said Shane.

“What we really need is the decking and frame for outside the door – that’s going to be the biggest part of the thing, so we’d like to appeal for a bit of help there.”

Gemma added: “Shane has gone above and beyond, bless him. We’ve had loads of donations – we’ve had donations in as far off as Australia, America, Canada and Dubai!

“It’s really special that they’ve given to a personal cause like this. It will mean so much to Logan and his baby brother Caleb.”
