York City blew the chance to move to within four points of Stevenage on Monday.
Taking on promotion hopefuls Plymouth Argyle, the Minstermen fell to a 3-2 defeat despite fighting their way back from 3-0 down with two second-half goals.
York are currently 23rd in the League Two table. They are one place but seven points behind Stevenage, and have played a game more than Darren Sarll’s men.
Stevenage travel to Luton Town on Saturday while York host a Leyton Orient side looking to force their way into the play-offs.
