A teenager who grew up battling a congenital heart defect is taking to the dancefloor for her next gap year charity challenge.

Becca Harris – who lives in Biggleswade – left Stratton Upper School last year and made it her mission to raise as much money as possible for two causes which are close to her heart.

Having already raised thousands, the 19-year-old is holding a Disney-themed disco to raise even more money for Great Ormond Street Hospital and the charity Megan’s Smile.

She said: “When I was two years old, a trainee nurse listened to my heart and picked up on the fact that there was something wrong – this was the beginning of a long journey of living with this defect.

“Great Ormond Street Hospital saved my life, their amazing work and medical staff made everything that I had to go through a little bit easier.

“It’s been a long 17 years of X-rays, blood tests and procedures to make sure everything is okay, and hopefully everything will remain okay, but CHD will always affect my life

“I was very lucky to beat CHD. Megan’s Smile is a charity dedicated to Megan Rose-Gidley, who lost her battle with CHD when she was just nine months old. Now her family raise money to support families with children in hospital.”

The disco will take place between 6pm and 8pm at Biggleswade Rugby Club on Friday, May 27.

Tickets – priced at £3 for children, £1 for adults and free for those under one – can be bought at Nonno Joe’s or by searching for Disney Dream Disco at www.eventbrite.co.uk
