Work to resurface a road deemed to be dangerous has been completed following mounting pressure for action to be taken.
Dozens of people had been complaining about the poor condition of Chells Way in Stevenage on social media, worried the potholes and crumbling road surface could lead to a serious accident.
The road, dubbed ‘Hell’s Way’ by motorists, was due to be resurfaced by 2017/18, but this work was brought forward by Herts County Council and motorists can now enjoy driving on a smooth surface.
Herts County Council member Robin Parker, who represents the Chells division, had been campaigning to get the road resurfaced for about two years.
He said: “I had dozens of people complain to me about the appalling state of the road because the potholes and breaking up of the surface was very dangerous, especially for road users on two wheels.
“It’s now a pleasure to drive on. There are lots of other roads in Stevenage that need attention, but Chells Way was by far the worst.”
