More than 100 older people came together at Letchworth’s Broadway Hotel to learn more about staying safe from fire, scammers and more.
The Older Persons’ Activity and Learning Safety event was organised by Herts Fire and Rescue in partnership with 14 other agencies including the police and ambulance services, Trading Standards and more.
And funding from the Heritage Foundation meant everyone got a free hot carvery dinner before leaving with a bag full of goodies.
“This was a wonderful opportunity to engage with some of the most vulnerable people in our society,” said North Herts fire prevention co-ordinator Julie Springett.
“Educating them on how to keep safe from fire, crime and scammers is very important, and offering the chance to find out about local services is vital to keeping them happy and healthy in their own homes.
“The day was a great success and I would like to thank everyone that was involved.
“Most of all I’d like to thank the older people for coming and making the day such a success. We’ll certainly be holding more.”
Also at the event were the Letchworth-based Ernest Gardiner Treatment Centre, the Red Cross, Age UK, Samaritans, Groundwork, Dementia Friends and the county and district councils.
