A 29-year-old man from Stevenage has been jailed for 15 weeks after he admitted kicking and repeatedly threatening to bite a police officer.

Luke Ward, of Fry Road, pleaded guilty to assaulting two constables on October 14 when he appeared before Hatfield magistrates on Tuesday.

He also admitted possession of cannabis in Letchworth on December, and pleaded guilty to stealing clothes from Primark in Stevenage, as well as two counts of stealing alcohol in the town.

Chairman of the bench Natasha Hurst sentenced Ward to 15 weeks behind bars – six weeks for assaulting the officers and possessing the drugs, and three weeks for each of the thefts.

His guilty pleas were taken into account, but the bench ruled that the offences were aggravated by the defendant’s previous convictions.

Ward must also pay a £115 victim surchage and £85 in costs.
