Hitchin’s streets are set to have lower speed limits introduced after the culmination of six years of tireless campaigning by a councillor.
Speed limits of 20mph have been designated for 24 streets in the town, with the first changes being made in the Bearton ward.
Judi Billing, Labour’s county councillor for Hitchin North, campaigned for the move – using her locality budget to pay for signage.
She said: “It’s taken an absurdly long time with endless obstacles over the past six years.
“But I wasn’t prepared to give up – and we’re finally there.”
